The Royal couple were visiting RAF Akrotiri, a UK military base on Cyprus. The Duchess went on to make an endearing comment about her son, Prince George, and his fondness for helicopters. It comes amid reports of a growing rift between the Duchess of Cambridge and her sister-in-law, the Duchess of Sussex.

The jibe was made as the Duke and Duchess were posing for photographs in front of a Christmas tree, along with military personnel.

Joking about his wife’s green jacked the Duke commented: “My wife’s camouflaged against the tree.”

The Duke later asked photographers: “Do you want me to move out of the photo?” This produced a laugh from the assembled crowd.

During the Duchess was wearing an olive green Army Smythe blazer, similar in colour to the festive tree behind her.

She combined this with dark flared trousers, a suede LK Bennett clutch and Asprey diamond hoop earrings.

However, Kate got her own back on Prince William later in the day, when the couple opened a new recreation facility for military personnel.

After Prince William joked to the soldiers “keep the pizza off the sofas” his wife shot back “you’re a nightmare with that”.

Kate later shared an extraordinary insight about her eldest son, Prince George, telling a group of pilots “I told George this morning we were going to see the pilots today.

“He said, ‘If you see a helicopter can you take a picture?’”

This isn’t the first time Prince George’s fondness for helicopters has come to public attention.

During a Royal visit to Germany this year he was photographed beaming while being showed around a helicopter’s cockpit.

At the time Antonie van Gent, Airbus’ head of flight testing, told The Telegraph: “George was excited, with the first helicopter he wanted to sit in the cockpit and then he wanted to sit in the next one.

“He already knew there was a difference between them.”

It has been announced the Cambridges will spend Christmas with Kate’s parents, whilst Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will visit The Queen.

This follows reports of a rift between the two women, with The Sun reporting Kate complained about the way Meghan treated a member of her staff.

Kensington Palace denied the claim.
